BFR for KNEES

Program for people with knee pain

This program has been put together by our Exercise Physiologists, to help people with knee pain – in particular osteoarthritis of the knee (or knees), patellofemoral pain, Total Knee Replacement, meniscus injury, ACL reconstructions or other knee surgery. In this program we will assess your suitability for an exciting evidence-based* approach to getting your knees stronger and reducing your knee pain.

We have conducted many individual BFR treatments, and a pilot group program, and the results have been consistent with the research: improved strength, improved muscle mass, improved function and reduced knee pain.

6S PHYSIO has been a leader in delivering Blood Flow Restriction treatments on the Central Coast.

We were the first to seek formal training and to source specialised TGA-approved BFR equipment, and we are ready to apply that experience to help you!

If you are assessed as being suitable, you will be provided with:

  • education about your arthritis and what can be done to improve it

  • information about Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Training – a safe and effective new treatment

  • baseline measurement of pain, strength, function and quality of life

  • guided supervised exercise using specialised equipment that has been shown to

  • reduce knee pain

  • improve strength

  • improve muscle mass

  • low-cost equipment for home-based follow-up

  • low-cost coaching and guidance along the way, to help you achieve your goals of stronger, less painful, more able legs!

To get involved, give us a call and we will then send you an email to begin the screening process. You’ll complete a 5-minute questionnaire to see if it’s safe for you to take part. Or you can go straight to the questionnaire right now – it’s completely up to you!

You have nothing to lose by getting in touch: the questionnaire is free, and even if BFR is not for you, we can assist by providing alternative advice.

You may be eligible to receive a referral under Medicare from your GP. If you print this page out and take it to your GP you will be able to discuss your eligibility. Otherwise, your Health Fund may cover you for some of the cost (you’ll need to check with them) or if you see us as a private patient we will provide you with great value for your investment in this low-cost program.

To move toward happier healthier knees, call us now on (02) 4327 8444 or click on THIS LINK and see if BFR is for you, right now!

If you are not suitable for this particular approach, don’t worry, you won’t miss out!  Our Exercise Physiologists can still provide you with effective exercise prescription and supervision.

6S for Stronger Bones

Program for people with Osteoporosis

This program has been put together by our Exercise Physiologists, specifically to help people with osteoporosis. Awareness in the community about osteoporosis is low, and knowing what type of exercise is effective and how intense the exercise needs to be… well, it can be confusing.

If you’ve landed on this page you probably already know that osteoporosis involves reduced bone density and strength and that there is an associated risk of fractures – life-threatening in some cases – and loss of independence.

osteoporosis

A recent Cochrane Review showed exercise reduced the rate of falls in older adults by 23%, and the number of individuals with fractures by 27%, with a trend to a decrease in fractures.  (Position Statement on the Management of Osteoporosis – April 2020 – Osteoporosis Australia)

This is where having an Exercise Physiologist to guide you can make such a difference.

If you want to have confidence in your body, maintain your independence and reduce your risk of falls and fractures, this program is for you.

We will meet with you, assess you and give you practical information and training that you can apply in our clinic or in your own home!

If you are assessed as being suitable, you will be provided with:

  • education about your Osteoporosis and what can be done to improve it

  • information about the most effective exercises to build stronger bones and reduce the risk of fractures

  • baseline measurement of pain, strength, function and quality of life

  • supervised exercise using specialised equipment to build strength and improve balance

  • low-cost equipment for home-based follow-up

  • low-cost coaching and guidance along the way, to help you achieve your goals of stronger bones and reduced risk of fractures!

If you are interested in participation, you may be eligible to receive a referral under Medicare from your GP.  If you print this page out and take it to your GP you will be able to discuss your eligibility.  Otherwise, your Health Fund may cover you for some of the cost (you’ll need to check with them) or if you see us as a private patient, we will provide you with great value for your investment in this low-cost program.
Your Exercise Physiologist can explain exactly what’s involved and you can ask any questions you have at your initial one-on-one assessment.  You can then decide if you want to participate further – you have nothing to lose by attending this first session (apart from your concerns about your osteoporosis).

To book your initial one-on-one assessment, call us now on (02) 4327 8444
